O-1A

Your ability. Your next opportunity.

Temporary U.S. work for people with extraordinary ability in athletics, business, science, or education.

What does it involve?

The O-1A looks at sustained national or international acclaim and whether your record places you among the small percentage at the top of your field. The proposed U.S. work must be in your area of extraordinary ability. A qualifying employer or agent files the petition.

A useful distinction

A résumé tells me what you have done. Supporting evidence helps explain why it matters. I look for independent records that give context to your achievements and your role.

START WITH WHAT YOU HAVE

Your preparation checklist

  • A short career timeline and links to independent coverage.
  • Awards, judging work, significant contributions, and leading roles, where relevant.
  • A description of the U.S. work and the proposed employer or agent.
