Show the impact of your coaching.

O-1A for BJJ coaches, with practical considerations for MMA coaches and athletes moving into coaching.

A coaching career has its own story

O-1A in athletics requires extraordinary ability supported by sustained national or international acclaim. I assess your evidence and the planned U.S. coaching work together. A black belt, years of teaching, or a gym’s offer alone does not establish eligibility.

Connect the result to your contribution

A student’s title can be part of your story, but it does not explain your role by itself. I look for records showing whom you coached, when, in what capacity, and how your work is recognized. Keep coaching appointments, independent coverage, and detailed confirmations of your contribution.

From competitor to coach

Competitive achievements may be relevant to related coaching work. The connection needs an explanation grounded in the shared skills and expertise. As a former BJJ coach, I take time to understand that transition and the work you actually intend to do.

START WITH WHAT YOU HAVE

Your preparation checklist

  • Coaching history, belt or qualifications, and your exact responsibilities.
  • Athlete or team results, with evidence of your coaching role.
  • Independent recognition, judging work, publications, or significant contributions, where relevant.
  • Proposed academy, employer or agent, duties, and U.S. work dates.
